Board Member Profiles

ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ has nine members on the Board of Regents. Each member is elected to a six year term, and all members serve at-large.

Board Chair Sanchez is a retired educator from Alvin Independent School District where she served as Director of Bilingual Services. She has given her time to many organizations including serving as President of Soroptimist International of Alvin, board member of the Thelma Ley Anderson YMCA, a board member of the Community Health Network, a former member of the United Way of Brazoria County, a former member of the Brazoria County Red Cross and a member of the Delta Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She has an Associate’s Degree from Wharton Junior College, a µþ²¹³¦³ó±ð±ô´Ç°ù’s Degree in Special Education from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s in Education from Pan American University. Chair Sanchez’s late husband Dan also served as an educator and coach. She has two sons Christopher and Michael, and she is Bubbe to Calvin and Bradley Sanchez.

Dr. Crumm retired after operating and owning a veterinary hospital in Alvin for over 25 years and working for the Texas Animal Health Commission for 9 years. He is active in the community serving as the president of the Galveston County Veterinary Medical Association, and active in the ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ Foundation and the M.L. Davis Foundation. Dr. Crumm has an Associate’s Degree from ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ, µþ²¹³¦³ó±ð±ô´Ç°ù’s Degrees in Animal Science and Veterinary Science from Texas A&M University, a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University. Regent Crumm is married to his wife Mary Jane and has two children.

Board Secretary Hertenberger is a retired Dean of the ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ Continuing Education Workforce Development program. Her educational background includes earning an Associate’s Degree from ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ, a µþ²¹³¦³ó±ð±ô´Ç°ù’s Degree from Sam Houston State University, a Master’s Degree in Higher Education from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and a Doctorate in Higher Education from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Hertenberger and her husband have been married for over 50 years.

Regent Hoover is a retired senior staff engineer from Shell Oil Company in Deer Park. He has a µþ²¹³¦³ó±ð±ô´Ç°ù’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and is a Professional Engineer in Texas. Regent Hoover is a charter member of Alvin Sunrise Rotary and serves with the Alvin ISD Education Foundation. He and his wife Susan have three adult children, all of whom have attended ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ and eventually graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and Sam Houston State University.

Regent Knape currently serves as the Executive Director of ACTIONS, Inc. which is a nonprofit organization that provides meals, transportation, and supportive services to senior citizens throughout Brazoria County. She is active in her community as a volunteer, serving as Chair of the Houston-Galveston Area Council’s Aging and Disability Committee and as a member of the Meals on Wheels Texas Board of Directors. Regent Knape is an ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ alum and transferred to Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration. She is a lifelong resident of Brazoria County and has one son.

Regent Kam Marvel is a Talent Technology and Support director with San Jacinto College. His educational background includes an Associate’s Degree in General Studies from Alvin College, a µþ²¹³¦³ó±ð±ô´Ç°ù’s Degree in Child Youth Development from Charter Oak State University and a Master’s in Science Degree in Instructional Design and Technology from St. Thomas University. Regent Marvel and his wife are proud ACC alumni. His children attended the college Lab School and are alumni of the Dual Enrollment program.

Regent Mike Pyburn served on the Board of Regents from 2002-2020, and again from 2023-present.  He also served as Board Chair from 2016-2020.   Mike is the President and CEO of Almeda Water Well Service/M&M Hardware in Manvel and is a 1987 graduate of Texas A&M University with a BBA in accounting.  Mike served on the Alvin ISD Board of Trustees from 1996-1999.  He is a Past President of the Texas Groundwater Association and was named the association’s Contractor of the Year in 2017.  He currently serves on the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Advisory Council for drilling contractors in the State of Texas.  Mike was inducted into the Brazoria County JA Business Hall of Fame in 2022 and currently serves as an elder of Bay Area Church in League City.

Regent Reyes-Hall has been a dedicated professional in the real estate industry since 1999. She is the Broker/Owner of Reyes Realty Group LLC, specializing in residential and commercial real estate. Beyond her professional endeavors, she actively contributes to her community, serving on the ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ Foundation Board and as a member of the Hometown Bank Business Development Committee. 

Reyes-Hall has held several notable leadership roles, including Past President of the Alvin Noon Lions Club (2019–2020), Past Special Events Chair for the Alvin/Manvel Chamber of Commerce, and Past Treasurer for AHS Project Grad. She also played a pivotal role in the success of two bond initiatives as a member of the Alvin ISD Citizens Advisory Committee. 

Before her career in real estate, Reyes-Hall gained valuable experience in municipal management, working for the cities of Houston, Friendswood, and Baytown. In these roles, she oversaw facilities, parks, community programs, community special events, and significant budgets. 

A proud alumna of Alvin High School (Class of 1985), Reyes-Hall continued her education at ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ (ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ), where she was actively involved as a cheerleader and earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration in 1989. She went on to graduate from Texas A&M University in 1990 with a µþ²¹³¦³ó±ð±ô´Ç°ù’s Degree in Tourism Sciences. 

Reyes-Hall has been married to her husband, David, since 2000. Together, they have one daughter, Gabriella, who followed in her mother’s footsteps by earning an Associate’s Degree from ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ in 2022.  Yvette's mother earned an Associate’s Degree from ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ as well. 

Community leadership runs deep in the Reyes family. Her father, Andy Reyes, served for many years on Alvin’s City Council and became the city’s first Hispanic Mayor. He currently serves on the Region IV Board and is co-owner of Reyes Realty Group.

Regent Shelton is a supply chain technologist and CPO with FuelTrust. He has volunteered with local organizations including the Lions Club, Alvin Manvel Area Chamber of Commerce and the Lone Star Harbor Safety Committee. He studied at Stephen F. Austin State University and Hope University. He and his wife, Aimee Shelton, are the proud parents of three daughters, all of whom are ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ alumni. In addition to his professional duties, regent Shelton has served as a chaplain for three police agencies and is currently Pastor at Hope Tabernacle in Alvin.
