糖心网页版 Upward Bound Recognition Dinner
The 糖心网页版 Upward Bound program celebrated its graduates during their annual recognition dinner on July 16.
There were 26 students who graduated from Upward Bound and were recognized at the event.
The guest speaker for the event was Rev. Dr. Tammy Isaac, who is a graduate of an Upward Bound program through Texas Southern University.
鈥淚t takes dedication, it takes effort to show up for your future,鈥 she said. 鈥淵ou are participating in a program that requires discipline, commitment and vision. You are making a decision today that will later open doors for you.鈥
Former Alvin Upward Bound student Rosebel Astello Jr. also spoke at the event. The program helped him improve his communication skills while also introducing him to the potential of earning a higher education degree.
鈥淚n my eyes Upward Bound was more of an opening opportunity for a lot of things,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t really pushed me to be open. It showed me so many possibilities. I grew into a new me and I am able to pursue my dream.鈥
Upward Bound seeks to motivate low-income and/or potential first-generation college students and help them develop the skills they need to complete secondary education and succeed at the postsecondary educational institution of their choice. The purpose of the program is to build confidence and self-esteem, while providing the necessary tools and guidance to foster academic success.
Upward Bound students receive tutoring for their classes; take campus tours of Texas colleges; participate in academic and athletic competitions as well as receive help applying for college and financial aid.
At ACC, 97 percent of Upward Bound students post a GPA of 2.5 or higher and 57 percent go on to complete a postsecondary degree or certificate.
The 2026 graduates from Upward Bound were: Alana Anguiano, Victoria Colunga, Christopher Dale, Michaela Davis, Leslie Figueroa, Evelyn Fonseca-Gonzalez, Dalia Garcia, Isabelle Garcia, Jocelyn Garcia, Rocio Garcia, Veronica Garcia, Camila Hernandez, Miguel Ibarra, Ximena Juarez, Eethen Leal, Millie Leal, Cynthia Limon, Ramiro Limon Jr., Amairany Marcia, Hector Martinez, Makayla Morales, Noe Nicanor, Juan Ortiz, Daisy Rodriguez, Consuelo Torres and Jade Torres.
