ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ Foundation Awards Grants and Honors Staff

The ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ Foundation presented approximately $23,000 in grants and awards at the annual Honoring Excellence Reception on April 28.

The Foundation presented its Excellence Awards which recognize college faculty and staff members who go above and beyond every day. Winners this year were: Human Resources executive director Lindsey Hindman, Associate Degree Nursing administrative assistant Michel Evans, custodian Carmen Arreola and Culinary Arts chef Laura Trigo. Each received $1,000.

Winners of the Adjunct Excellence Awards were TDCJ proctor Evelyn Jammer and Business Management instructor and Iowa Colony Mayor Wil Kennedy. Each received $500.

Innovative Grants were also awarded during the reception.  These grants are designed to encourage, facilitate, recognize and reward innovative and creative approaches to fulfill the mission of ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ. The grants will be used for the 2026-27 academic year.

A $3,000 grant was issued to Student recruiter Misty Abraham to support Discovery Day and the Back to Campus scholarships.

Culinary Arts Chef Laura Trigo was awarded $1,000 to go towards supporting the Culinary Arts students in a competitive BBQ cookoff.

Physical Plant Director Bryan Hinshaw and Facilities Operations Manager Melinda Laurence received a $3,000 grant for the construction of covered seating areas on campus.

Welding instructor Michael Mejia received a $3,000 grant to help purchase fall protection and safety equipment.

Human Resources benefits coordinator Stephanie Martinez was awarded a $1,000 grant for educational materials to support a campus wellness collaborative.

A $2,000 grant was awarded to Biology instructor Heather Lewis to purchase tags to help identify the many plants in the college pocket prairie.

Police Sargeant Jessica Trevino received a $2,000 grant to install illuminated traffic signs on campus.

Brittani Bewick was issued a $3,000 grant to create a mixed-reality biomanufacturing lab to provide a complete lab experience and certification opportunity.
