ҳ Receives Approval for Nursing Bachelor's Degree

ҳ received approval from state officials to move forward with the online Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing.

The Texas Board of Nursing issued notice on July 27 that the college could move forward with developing the program.

“We are thrilled to receive Texas Board of Nursing approval for our RN-to-BSN program, a significant step in expanding educational opportunities for nurses and strengthening the healthcare workforce in our community,” said Elizabeth Saucedo, Nursing program director for ҳ.

The program is due to begin Spring 2027 and still requires accreditation approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating board.

The program was first approved by the ҳ Board of Regents in April 2025. Regents pursued the program after the increased demand for nurses with Bachelor’s Degrees from local healthcare providers. A survey of students in ҳ’s Associate’s Degree in Nursing showed that 80 percent intend to enroll in a Bachelor’s program once they complete their Associate’s.

The proposal will provide a cost-effective option for students that include part-time and full-time programs. Students in the Associate’s program will also be able to concurrently enroll in the Bachelor’s program.

Once completed, this will be the second Bachelor’s Degree offered by ҳ in addition to the Business Administration Degree.
